    The preferred choice (no waiting list, no travel, no parking, no waiting room)  is a ZOOM Consultation online which can be booked here.

    If you prefer to attend in person, consultations take place in the Rotunda Private Clinic, on the grounds of the Rotunda Hospital.  He operates in the Rotunda Hospital, Bon Secours Hospital and Mater Private Hospital in Dublin.

    All "in person" appointments are offered based on your referring letter and the degree of urgency.

    A private appointment with Dr Mocanu is a fee-paying consultation. You will be seen by Dr Mocanu for all your visits and surgical procedures.

    If you make an appointment for an online consultation you will receive a confirmatory email. Please ensure you fill in the history document and forward to Dr. Mocanu prior to the visit.

    If a referral letter was sent, the appointment date and details will be forwarded to you by post.  Please specify the preferred means of communication with you. It is essential that you confirm the attendance.

    A referral letter from your GP/ Consultant is ideal.

    You can self-refer, if you desire. Please bring the results of all your investigations at your first visit.

    The result will be posted to you and will be forwarded to Dr. Mocanu for discussion at the time of your visit.

    The result will be emailed to you and will be forwarded to Dr Mocanu for discussion at the time of your visit. For the female partner a set of tests to include: Rubella immunity check, smear test, hormonal measurements (TSH and T4, Rubella screen, Prolactin level, smear test and "day 21" progesterone if you have regular periods).

    Please ask you doctor to forward the results of all your tests performed to date. Any correspondence that is relevant should also be sent. If you had treatment elsewhere please ensure that you bring copies of charts and full details of therapy.

    A full hormonal profile for the female: Ovarian reserve testing (AMH), Hormones to include FSH, LH, Oestradiol, TSH and T4 and “day 21” progesterone as well as a Rubella immunity test.  From the male, a semen analysis is required.  This is ideally organised before the visit.  Please book a semen test here. The result will be emailed to you and will be forwarded to Dr. Mocanu for discussion at the time of your subsequent visit.

    Yes, an AMH level is performed and interpreted routinely.

    It is very important that both partners are present for this consultation. A full history, interpretation of results, discussion of next steps and recommended procedures will take place. If needed, a transvaginal ultrasound scan will also be performed. You will receive detailed advice. The consultation duration is usually 20 minutes. Please allow 3 hours for your visit.

    Dr. Mocanu aims to reach a diagnosis as quickly as possible. If the results of investigations are at hand one first visit might suffice, otherwise, 2 or sometimes 3 visits are required.  This is why it is important to organise a semen analysis beforehand.  Please book online at here.  The result will be emailed to you and will be forwarded to Dr Mocanu for discussion at the time of your visit.

    Return visits can be booked at the time of your initial consultation. There is no waiting list for return visits.

    If the test needs to be performed on a Saturday please do it on Friday, and similarly do the test on Monday if day 3 falls on the Sunday.

    All results available at the time of your first visit will be discussed with and interpreted for you. If tests are done during your first visit the results will be discussed at your subsequent visit.

    Please note Dr. Mocanu advises you to return for a follow up visit to discuss all results, obtain a diagnosis and plan therapy.

    Dr. Mocanu does not contact you to inform of your results as they required interpretation and this is ideally done face to face either by zoom or in person in his rooms. 

    If you have not seen Dr Mocanu for more than 12 months a full set of investigations are normally performed. You can organise an appointment to discuss next steps.

    Yes, you can attend for a formal visit in order to understand the test and organise it or organise a suitable date through his secretary Lisa at 01 8289528 or lkeane@rotunda.ie.

    Either Letrozole (Femara) or Clomid (Clomiphene Citrate) is taken from day 2 to day 6 of cycle only. This is 5 days in total, every month. 

    Nolvadex is taken from day 1 to day 5 of cycle.

    If you period is late starting, please visit your GP to verify if you are pregnant. If not pregnant please ring the office during clinic hours to organise a follow up scan with Dr. Mocanu

    Days 10, 11, 12 or 13 of the cycle in which you took the tablets.

     

    No, as this is a transvaginal (internal) scan. You need an empty bladder.

    He performs fertility enhancing minimal invasive surgery as described in Surgery.

    He also performs outpatient hysteroscopy, a quick exploration of your womb inside.

    Of course, you will need to attend for a formal visit in order to understand the surgery, discuss indications, risks and sign consents.

    Please ensure you are not pregnant when attending for surgery. If you were given an appointment for surgery please use protection that month so that you cannot be pregnant at time of surgery.

    Both the laparoscopy and hysteroscopy are day cases. You will be attending early in the morning and be discharged late in the afternoon. If a laparotomy (open surgery for fibroids) is planned you must attend the hospital the night before and hospital stay will be on average 5 nights.

     

    The outpatient hysteroscopy is a quick visit lasting 1 hour.

    Dr. Mocanu performs the surgery himself.

    If you have no medical insurance the cost of surgery will be discussed at the time of the consultation.

    If you have medical insurance it will cover the hospital costs, anaesthetic fees and part of Dr. Mocanu's Professional Fees.

    Dr. Mocanu does balance billing, the non-insurance covered fee depends on the complexity of the surgery performed and ranges between 400 to 1200 Euro.

    Dr Mocanu is a part-participant Consultant. The surgery cost depends on the complexity of the surgery he will perform. The fee difference will be discussed before the surgery.

     

    A postoperative appointment is offered to all patients 6 weeks after surgery. This is to discuss findings and next steps. There is no charge for this visit.

    All Zoom Consultations are paid at time of booking. In Clinic consultations are paid for on the day of consultation. Surgery bills can be paid by phone at 01 8289528 using a credit or debit card once the invoice is received.
